The transition from elementary school to middle school means more than just changing campuses. Consider some of the external factors: higher academic expectations, more individual responsibility, more demanding schedule, new building. Then, of course, there are all the internal factors, too; as adolescents emerge from children, there are weird physical changes and the (probable) onset of teenage awkwardness. Kids find themselves locked in a comparison battle with their peers in everything from shoe size, to fashion, to voice depth, to athletic speed - and the list goes on.
If you're a parent of a middle schooler, I'd like to suggest a helpful resource for your student (and, as it turns out, a resource for you, too). It's a handy little volume titled Surviving Middle School by Rick Bundschuth. I'd love to provide your student (and you) with a copy on September 7, which is promotion Sunday. That's a great day for new 7th graders to meet their new Sunday School teachers and get a taste of what the youth ministry is all about at FBC! See you then!
